Sirdar Yarn
Sirdar was founded in England in the Yorkshire West Riding town of Ossett in 1880 as Harrap Brothers. In 1890 the company moved to a site in the city of Wakefield - an area steeped in a rich textiles heritage - where it has remained to this day.
The Sirdar name was adopted quite early on in the company's history, being chosen to reflect the aura of Lord Kitchener’s appointment as Sirdar or leader of the Egyptian army. By the 1930’s 'Sirdar' was used to brand the company’s range of hand knit yarns which were sold exclusively through retailers.

As well as producing a huge range of yarn, Sirdar is well known for its unsurpassed collection of Sirdar knitting patterns. Each yarn from Sirdar is supported with a Sirdar knitting pattern and many of the softer yarns come with Sirdar baby knitting pattern range.
