Windy Valley Muskox Yarn
Windy Valley Muskox Yarn is a family owned farm in a stunning river valley called Matanuska in Alaska. Owners John and Dianne Nash raise muskox to produce a truly special yarn called qiviut. Qiviut is prized by those who love knitting. Qiviut is the fine undercoat of the muskox. It is one of the warmest and most luxurious fibers in the world. The wool made from qiviut is super soft; it's like putting your hands in a cloud.
More information about qiviut
The word qiviut comes from the Eskimo word (kiv-ee-ut) - meaning muskox undercoat. The qiviut produced by Windy Valley Muskox is eight times warmer than wool and is finer than cashmere. It is also hypoallergenic and doesn't shrink. Qiviut is expensive but you would expect this as it is extremely rare and one of the most luxurious fibers you can choose for a garment. Unlike wool, qiviut is soft, non-irritating to the skin, and is very durable. Qiviut garments are worn for years and can be hand washed in mild detergent. It does not shed, is odorless and retains warmth even when wet. It is an extremely warm, yet lightweight fiber that preserves heat in the winter, while also providing cool, breathable comfort in warmer weather.
